The tool counts syllables in each lyric line and multiplies by your chosen pace. Section tags like [Chorus] split the estimate so you can balance the arrangement. Treat the number as a planning aid — not an exact runtime.

Compare drafts with the same pace setting
A Suno lyrics duration estimator is most useful as a relative check. Choose the pace that resembles the intended delivery, estimate the current draft, then keep that pace unchanged while comparing revisions. The difference between the two estimates is often more useful than treating either total as a predicted runtime.
Read the section breakdown
Bracketed tags divide the lyrics into sections. A chorus that is much longer than the verses may be intentional, but the breakdown lets you see the imbalance before generation.
Investigate the warning, do not obey it blindly
A section above roughly 45 seconds deserves another look. It may need a split, fewer lines or an instrumental break, but a deliberate long passage can remain if it serves the arrangement.
Why the number remains an estimate
The calculation uses a syllable heuristic and a fixed time per syllable for the selected pace. Melody, held notes, repeated phrases, ad-libs, pauses and instrumental space all change the real duration. English syllables are approximated, and CJK characters are treated as rough syllable units. Use the number to compare lyric density, then confirm musical pacing by listening.
Store the pace setting with your revision notes so the next estimate uses the same baseline.
