Prompt course · Unit 3 · Level 10
Describe vocal tone and texture
Move beyond who sings. Learn a compact vocabulary for what the voice should sound like, then combine one useful tone cue with a clear singer role.
What you will learn
Describe an audible quality instead of praising the singer
- Recall common vocal-tone words without a choice list.
- Connect each word to a sound a listener could compare.
- Keep singer role, tone, and delivery as separate prompt jobs.
- Repair vague or conflicting vocal descriptions.
Build a useful vocabulary
Choose words that describe an audible surface
Eight practical tone cues
Keep the jobs separate
Role says who; tone says how the voice sounds
Build from role to tone
Names who carries the song.
Names audible qualities of the voice.
Names how the line is performed.
Keeps one clear role and two compatible qualities.
Avoid adjective piles
More tone words do not create more control
“Beautiful, amazing, perfect vocal” praises a result but does not describe a sound. “Warm, intimate female lead vocal” gives the model two qualities a listener can compare. Start with one or two compatible tone cues, generate, then revise only the part that missed.
